Many people every year attempt to achieve success with an online business. They grab a domain name, throw a hastily made website online, and then become frustrated when they don’t achieve success quickly enough. The truth is, most times it is because the person never worked on growing as an entrepreneur; they never worked on developing an entrepreneur mindset.
When you are working for someone else it is easy to think of your workday falling into a certain set of work hours. You go in, put in your time, and when the workday is done you put your job behind you until the next day. When you have an entrepreneur mindset you are constantly working on your business. Even when you are relaxing at the end of the day a part of your mind is a work on building your business.
One way you can capitalize on that kind of attitude is to develop the habit of goal setting. When you have specific goals and objectives that are clearly defined your subconscious mind can go to work making those goals a reality. When you approach your business without goals your subconscious mind is unfocused. It jumps from one problem to the next with no end result that it is working toward.
Another important part of that mindset is to understand that in order to succeed you must be willing to put in the time and do whatever it takes to be successful. While it would be nice if the claims of earning a 6-figure income while working part-time were true, the reality is much different. It is possible to build a good income, and eventually reduce the number of hours that you work, most successful entrepreneurs put in some long hours when they are first getting their business up and running.
You should also be willing to spend time each and every day growing as an entrepreneur. This means going beyond merely learning the daily tasks you need to accomplish. It means working on building your knowledge so that you understand not just what needs to be done, but also why you need to do every task that you do. The more you understand how everything works the better able you will be to innovate and move your business to a higher level. In an environment that is constantly changing, it is the people who understand the business that are able to quickly adapt to those changes.
Having an entrepreneur mindset helps give you the drive and the focus to not only succeed, but to build a business that remains successful into the future. One of my favourite assignments as a copywriter is to help entrepreneurs create the text to promote their new business, product or service. In my five years as a professional copywriter, I’ve helped clients as diverse as electricians, sales trainers, marketing companies, gourmet food shops, property developers, digital agencies, IT consultants and driving instructors to express what they offer in writing – usually at the early stage of building or planning the enterprise. The power of copywriting in that situation simply cannot be overestimated. There really is something almost magical about putting words on the page. It makes ideas real, generates commitment and focuses energy. Just by committing thoughts to paper, we can shape our futures. It’s easy to see how this benefits the entrepreneur as they plan or develop a business. Although most entrepreneurs generally feel positive and confident about their ideas, they sometimes find it hard to do them full justice on the page. This type of feedback confirms that the entrepreneur may simply be too close to his or her product or business (whether emotionally or intellectually) to communicate its selling points effectively. If the business is a one-person startup enterprise, it’s easy to see why. Talking an idea through with a good copywriter (one who asks the client lots of questions) is a great way to road-test a new idea. ‘If we translated this concept into marketing messages,’ the entrepreneur is asking, ‘Would it fly? Would the proposition be consistent, compelling and capable of converting interest into sales?’ Here, the discipline of copywriting can act as a useful reality check. The dark side of confidence is over-confidence, and entrepreneurs are prone to many delusions and self-deceptions. But the copywriter cannot spin straw into gold; to make convincing copy, they can’t work with unclear, inconsistent or self-contradictory ideas. As part of the briefing process, the copywriter can help the entrepreneur to iron out all these tangles in their thinking – provided the copywriter is prepared to put some tough questions to the person who pays their bill.

Focus on your strength. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses. To be more effective, you have to know your strength and concentrate on it. You will become more successful if you are able to connect your efforts to areas that you do best.
Eagerness to learn. You dont have to be a degree holder or a PhD graduate to succeed in your own business. In fact, there are a lot of entrepreneurs are degree holders. Some didnt finish college. These people reached their full potential achieved their financial and personal goals in business because they are willing to learn. To be successful, you must be willing to ask questions, this will help you to gain more knowledge to some experts. You must be interested to every detail, because that would serve as the new knowledge to reach and fulfill your goal. Willingness to learn is one of the most important in doing business.
James Jardine from the University of Cambridge in the UK won third prize in the post-graduate category of the Santander University Entrepreneurship Awards.
He scooped 5,000 for his company Qiqqa.com a company that provides free software which helps students and researchers manage information.
The awards aim to support and encourage university students to pursue their business ideas and are open to students from all 58 universities within the Santander programme.
To mark the fifth anniversary of Santander Universities in the UK, Santander chief executive, Ana Botn, announced an additional 1.5m of funding to UK universities, taking its total investment to 7 million during 2012, as well as 100 new mobility grants of 2,500 available to UK students to study abroad.
She also extended the banks support for small businesses with the launch of a new programme to place graduates from the countrys top universities on internships with SMEs across the UK.
The programme to encourage entrepreneurialism amongst graduates is a collaboration between Santander and its university partners and aims to promote the benefits of working for a SME to third-year or recently graduated students, while providing smaller businesses with an injection of talent not always easy to obtain by companies with limited administration resources.
Santander will work with its partner universities to find students and companies who will benefit most from the scheme and will help with placement and administration, including project management, as well as part-funding a basic salary for the students.
Ana Botn said: Youth unemployment and particularly graduate unemployment is one of the most pressing issues for the UK economy. We hope our new programme offering 500 student internships to SMEs can help provide our talented graduate community with the opportunity to gain vital experience in the work place, whilst opening their eyes to the benefits of working for smaller companies.
SMEs have not typically attempted to compete with the graduate recruitment schemes of the big FTSE players and we hope that this initiative will give a wider range of companies the benefit of fresh, young talent.
